Why do customers submit content and what can you do to motivate them?
They want to get something out of it. (Incentive) Address the "what's in it for me?" in your customers' minds, and they'll go the extra mile for you. Customers will submit their content and data to you for the chance to win a prize, for example.
They like to see their name up in lights. (Ego) Customers will submit compelling visual and text content for a chance to be featured or singled out in front of an audience.
They share because they care. (Altruism) They want to give back, especially when they've had a good experience. Passionate customers want to share detailed stories to help your business and help other shoppers.
How do you use each of the three motivational factors successfully?
Give them something. (Incentive) Rivet's Sweepstakes Program allows you to easily offer an incentive. If you're not currently enrolled in the program, click here to learn more.
Play up the fact that they’ll be featured on your site. (Ego) Combined with an explanation of the incentive, a short statement that tells them "they may be featured on your site" does the trick.
Tell them how helpful their contributions will be. (Altruism) People who are motivated by the concern for the well-being of others will be motivated to know that their submission will be helpful. The more specific you can be about how their submission helps, the better.
